Several Ways to Read Without Getting Bored

It’s true. Reading is pretty boring sometimes. However, there are some ways to make reading a real treat. Here are some of them.

Instructions

1

Try to get into a comfortable position which you feel that you can be in for an extended period of time. If you do this, you will be able to read huge sections of your book while feeling nice and relaxed and without having to move. A good place to read is laying down on the couch or in bed.

2

Listening to music can help keep you motivated while reading. However, you have to be careful if you do this. You cannot listen to very loud music, and you should never listen to music that has very extensive lyrics or music you have never heard before. If you do this, then you will pay attention to the music more than the book. Listening to some soft rock music is perfect for reading.

3

Read an interesting book! A good tip for reading is that you want to read a book that you want to read. Don’t read a book that somebody else suggested to you that you know nothing about. If a friend suggests a book that makes you interested, then by all means, read it. However, if somebody suggests you a book that you really don’t want to read, then why bother reading it?

4

Set a goal for yourself. Perhaps you want to read 100 pages and then stop. Maybe even 50. However, doing this will motivate you to read more and you’ll be done with your book in no time.

5

Try to reflect on yourself while reading the book. Many books can relate to everyday life, and reflecting while reading can really make a book much more interesting, and you can almost immerse yourself in your reading.

6

If you are seriously bored, then stop and do something fun. The book will always be there. That is, unless you rented it from the library and it’s overdue.

Speed Reading: The Important to Enjoying Written Text

Being able to read quicker is a skill that can bring lots of positive rewards for any individual – whether it’s on a personal, expert, and even social level. In my a lot more than half a decade of studying speed reading, I am convinced that the person who can read faster can outwit, outplay and outlast any person in almost any job, school, or competitive environment.

So why is the ability to read faster not just a luxury, but a necessity in this modern day world?

The answer is easy. We are now living in the Information Age. Therefore, your productivity and effectiveness in the workplace will, on a bigger scale, depend on your capability to absorb inside a shorter period of time. This is the major reason why hundreds of thousands of people want to discover how to read faster. And this is almost certainly the exact same reason why you’re reading this material correct now. You want to double or even triple your reading speed, do not you?

But hold your horses…

Do you know that the “speed reading game” is not just about becoming able to read ten encyclopedias per hour? (Ok, slightly exaggerated). Most people who want to read faster make one fundamental mistake and it is this:
They neglect two major aspects of reading improvement that are a lot far more crucial than speed. Those two aspects are comprehension and retention. Even if you know how to read 1,000 words per minute but your comprehension level remains on the identical level and completely unaffected, all the speed reading skills you have are useless. And even if you know how to read faster and able to comprehend most of what you read, if you don’t develop your retention skills, then all your reading efforts are in vain.

Why? Due to the fact without having working on your comprehension and retention skills, no matter how quickly you read, you’ll immediately forget every little thing afterwards!

It is important for you to understand how to enhance in three critical places: reading speed, comprehension, and retention. In later articles I will show you the entire reading improvement shebang. This could mean that you’ll read a little bit slower than some “magic speed readers” out there, but you’ll be able to comprehend and bear in mind far more particulars from each reading material that you set your eyes on…starting now! Most importantly, your current reading speed will double, triple, or increase significantly quicker than that!

The # 1 Speed Reading Crime

The most notorious speed reading “violation” is the act of reading word for word (verbatim). Reading verbatim might be a good thing when you are reciting a poem, or when you’re testifying in court…but it’s a “carnal sin” when you’re trying to read quicker! You see, when you read verbatim, silently or out loud, you automatically eradicate the possibility of reading faster since you’re focusing on 1 word at a time. Not only that, whenever you do the verbatim routine, your comprehension and retention levels fall to an all time low!

Why do comprehension and retention decrease when you’re reading word for word?

Simple. When reading, the human brain generally thinks in believed units or phrases, not individual words. For example, when you read the single word “lion”, you instantly think of a cute beardy lion. Even so, that word alone does not assist you recognize anything! It is just a lion, which is unrelated to any believed, object or event. But when you begin to read in believed units such as “the lion beneath the trees”, then if you treat those single phrase as one unit (rather of 5 separate words), your comprehension will improve, and so does your reading speed.

We’ll talk about advanced reading tactics in upcoming articles. For now, get rid of the habit of reading word for word. It’s 1 of the fundamental hindrances to speed reading! You’ll be surprised at how significantly you’ll greater get pleasure from and appreciate written text when you lastly get rid of this “reading word for word” habit and begin your path towards quicker reading.
